2019 Year In Review

It’s that time of year again when we look back at the last 12 months and celebrate everything we achieved in the year 2019.

To be honest, this year was jam-packed, and trying to narrow down our top moments has been no easy feat…

We’ll try to keep this brief, but we’re super proud of the entire team and seeing how far the business has come this past year. From celebrating our 7th birthday to travelling the world and hitting huge agency milestones – 2019, you’ve been utterly manic and intense at times, but we wouldn’t have done it any other way!

We Said Hello to Some BIG Clients & Launched New Stores

This year, we’ve welcomed some big clients to the 58 family, and there are a few names you might have heard of…

The final two sites for Charlie Bears launched in January, along with the Learning Hub Platform for law firm Harrison Clark Rickerbys – both kicking off the year with a bang!

In September, we launched the new Loacker ecommerce site on BigCommerce. The Italian chocolatier and wafer manufacturer had previously never sold online, so they came to 5874 to launch and scale their ecommerce business FAST.

2019 also saw the 5874 team relaunch Carluccio’s website with a heavily customised checkout and updated look and feel.

Whisky lovers might already have noticed a change with the Johnnie Walker website since November – 5874 designed and built their sleek new ecommerce site. We promise they did it all completely sober.

The Year of Travel

With some international clients on our books, 2019 saw a lot of air miles racked up! We think our CDO, Rupert Cross, saw the inside of a plane more than your average pilot, this year.

We travelled all over, back and forth, and using various modes of transport – just waiting on that cruise ship ticket to come through…

We visited Amsterdam, Chicago, Madrid, Austin and made frequent trips to the Italian Dolomites to see our friends at Loacker. Let’s not mention the sheer amount of train and car journeys across the UK.

Happy Birthday, 5874!

April saw us celebrate 5874’s 7th birthday! So much has changed in the last 7 years – any clients still with us from the days in the office above Blockbuster?!

Events and Exhibitions

We’ve been sprinkling the 5874 name like confetti while spreading the word about the latest industry updates at various events and exhibitions throughout the year. We discussed headless commerce with Fresh Relevance at The Shard, exhibited at IRX and eCommerce Expo, and Rupert Cross travelled all the way to Chicago to take part in the BigCommerce round table back in June. We like to get about a bit.

Property Wins

The property side has gone from strength to strength this year as our relationships with clients like Legal & General and Aviva Investors has meant we’ve had some incredible opportunities come our way. New Covent Garden Market and Goliath (the largest vacant shed in the UK at 666k sq ft) are just two of the amazing projects we’ve had the pleasure of working on this year.

September – The Month of Enterprise!

September was a busy month as we launched 7 enterprise stores! We’re so proud of the whole 5874 team for making September 2019 a record month for us – now to try and beat it next year!

The 58 Family

When you compare the 58 office now to this time last year, you may notice a significant difference – the number of faces staring back at you! We’ve grown our team yet again and we’re heading into 2020 with 18 members. The annual team BBQ is going to be heaving next summer!

The celebrations just keep on coming too. 

Lucy Brown took her month-long paid sabbatical in September to celebrate 5 years with 5874. We were all extremely jealous of Lucy, Lucy’s partner, Liam, and dog, Nugget, as they travelled through Scotland taking in some of the stunning scenery the wee country has to offer. Next year is Emily Elsworthy’s turn to take her month off – we can’t wait to find out what she is planning!

2020 will also see the 58 family expanding in more ways than one as two 58 babies are on the way – congrats to Michelle & Gavin and James & Ruth!

Can you hear wedding bells?! 2020 will see our Senior Web Developer and Solution Engineer, Adam Collins, marry his fiancé. What a year!

So, what else is in store for 5874 in 2020? You’ll have to wait and find out… but let’s just say we’ll be seeing a lot more of the United States next year.
