What Is Spark AR and Should It Be On Your Radar?

At the Facebook F8 Developer Conference earlier this year, it was announced that their Spark AR platform would be made available to everybody.

Spark AR provides users with the tools and resources needed to create photos and videos using augmented reality (AR) effects. AR has been a big part of the Facebook-owned photo-sharing app Instagram for some time, but this new update will allow businesses to create their own effects to create dynamic and entertaining experiences for their customers.

Fashion retailer ASOS were one of the first businesses to test the function by creating an AR filter of the famous ASOS packaging layered over eyes. They promoted their followers asking to tag them and share to their own social accounts.

What Are The Benefits To Creating Your Own AR Instagram Filter?

Instagram stories are used by over 500 million users daily with more than one billion people worldwide having already used AR effects and filters by Spark AR across its various platforms. Therefore, it’s pretty clear that there is a huge audience for AR on Instagram and that it could open new doors for businesses.

Creating a filter using Spark AR could be a new way to build brand awareness and increase engagement across your social platforms. You could even set up a competition for your followers to create their own filter, therefore, creating more user-generated content for your brand to share.

The key thing to remember here is that it’s all just a bit of fun for your customers and it can only be a good thing to have another way to interact with them. It should be considered as part of your marketing strategy going forward, particularly if Instagram is a popular platform for your typical customer.
