What I Do

Andy started coding for the web in the early nineties and before that, served time in the army. He progressed through being a developer, senior developer and then a lead developer before becoming a manager of coders back in 2008. Andy’s expertise has now led him to his role of Head of Development at 5874 where he oversees projects and manages our team of developers.

A Little More.

What made you apply for the job at 58?

The way my appointment happened was more a meeting of mutual needs. I needed a new team to manage and 58 needed an experienced Head of Development. I was also impressed with the ‘right, not rushed’ ethos at 58.

Who or what inspires you?

It’s great to see talented developers deliver amazing and complex solutions for all manner of client challenges. Also, I’m driven to keep finding ways to better deliver outstanding results for our clients. But doing that by supporting the people that make it happen.

Tell us a bit about yourself.

I’m proud to be a dad to my son who is a 31 year-old Electrician. I’m also a proud grandad, my granddaughter is now 8 years-old. I’ve been a heavy metal fan for years. So, I may have had some influence over her taste in music — she can already do a decent death metal growl and wants to go to a gig with me. Outside of work, I’m a photographer. I still use 35mm film because it keeps me closer to the actual process of taking photos. All that digital stuff is great, but without a set of negatives, the photo doesn't seem real.

If you’re going through hell, keep going. – Sir Winston Churchill
