Client:Virbac B2B

Founded in 1968, Virbac has R&D centres across 5 continents, sales subsidiaries in 33 countries and production sites in over 10, making it one of the largest veterinary pharmaceutical groups in the world.

Focused on animal health since its beginning, Virbac was built with a desire to provide veterinarians, farmers and pet owners worldwide with a set of innovative solutions to fight animal diseases. It links the needs of caregivers with the latest technological advances, with an innovative ecosystem which delivers a practical range of products and services to diagnose, prevent and treat the majority of pathologies, all while improving the quality of life for animals.

The Challenge

Virbac needed to replace its obsolete legacy platform, ensuring seamless integration with new ERP systems and other platforms while improving the efficiency of its online operations. The goal was to develop a centralised B2B web ordering solution that could be deployed across all Virbac affiliates and meet their diverse business needs.

As part of a company-wide digital transformation, Virbac was moving toward a SaaS approach, transitioning away from a legacy Infosys B2B platform that operated directly on top of the Movex ERP system. This legacy setup was costly, difficult to maintain, and implemented only in a limited number of regions, significantly hindering the company’s growth.

To address these challenges, Virbac needed a scalable, future-proof tool built on a solid foundation that could support global expansion. The vision was to create a global B2B web ordering model that could be deployed at scale across all regions while being managed centrally. By leveraging the power, flexibility, and scalability of BigCommerce B2B Edition, Virbac aimed to ensure seamless connection with both current and future technology stacks.

The Solution

We embarked on a major overhaul of its digital infrastructure as part of its global digital transformation strategy.

The current platform is a retired component of Virbac’s Movex ERP solution and requires replacement. This provided us with the opportunity to develop a new eCommerce B2B solution which can be maintained centrally and aligns with Virbac’s wider digital transformation process.

The new B2B eCommerce solution is designed to be easily replicable but flexible, allowing Virbac to deploy to their global affiliates while maintaining core functionality from a centralised authority, provided and maintained by Virbac Global.

By building a new B2B web ordering platform, utilising BigCommerce B2B technology, we’re aiming to increase the share of turnover captured online from just 10% to 50%. The newly developed open, flexible and modular infrastructure is configurable on a per-store basis but is maintained from a single codebase – improving efficiency of online operations and moves the business from an on premises first to cloud philosophy.

The RESULT

The implementation of Virbac’s new B2B eCommerce solution has delivered transformative results, aligning with the company’s digital transformation goals and significantly improving online operations.

By replacing the legacy Infosys B2B platform with a modern solution built on BigCommerce B2B Edition, Virbac has created a scalable, cloud-based infrastructure that supports global growth and simplifies management.

The centralised platform provides Virbac Global with full control while allowing regional affiliates to customise their online stores to meet local business needs. This flexibility ensures a consistent global framework without compromising on the ability to address specific market requirements. The shift from an on-premises system to a cloud-first architecture has greatly improved the platform’s efficiency, reducing maintenance costs and allowing for seamless updates and enhancements.

Since the launch of the new platform, Virbac has set a strong foundation to achieve its ambitious goal of increasing the share of online turnover from 10% to 50%. The modernised infrastructure, with its modular and open design, has also enabled faster deployment to new markets and integration with both current and future ERP systems, making the business more agile.

This project has not only improved operational efficiency but also positioned Virbac as a digitally enabled organisation capable of scaling and adapting to future demands, reinforcing its competitive edge in the global market.
